    Event description

Join Dr Liberty Olds, Wildlife Ecologist at Green Adelaide to uncover the mysteries of the magnificent Australian white ibis and learn why we love this iconic species!

This event will delve into the challenges faced by the ibis due to habitat changes and the innovative ways these charismatic birds are adapting to city life. Participants will learn about bird ecology and results of recent tracking studies including observations, nest cameras and GPS tracking - gaining insights into how ibis navigate and utilise Adelaideā€™s landscape.

Green Adelaideā€™s work with the Australian white ibis highlights the importance of understanding ibis behaviour to develop strategies that mitigate conflicts between humans and these beautiful protected native birds. As the ibis population grows in metropolitan areas, concerns about noise, mess, and smell at breeding sites have arisen. Research aims to build knowledge that will inform better management practices, ultimately fostering coexistence and appreciation for these unique and often misunderstood birds. Join us to discover why we should cherish the white ibis, affectionately dubbed the "bin chicken," and learn about the efforts to conserve this iconic species.
