Flip Fashion Forever
Event description
Calling all school-aged Viv Westwoods, Alexander McQueens and even Coco Chanels!!
We invite you to be apart of the change. Here at SLOGUE, we want to see a fashion industry that strives to be creative as well as ethically and socially responsible. You belong to the generation that has the power and passion for the change we are waiting to see.
Thrift flipping - Gen Z's version of 'renovating' old clothes - is becoming a global sensation on social media.
Flip Fashion Forever is a five-day school holiday program of 'thrift-flipping', where you, our future fashion innovators, will work with mentors from a team of socially responsible young fashion talents, some of whom have had work featured in Vogue and at Australian Fashion Week.
No boring sewing projects here though; you get to be your own creative directors, source your project starters from a huge secondhand warehouse on site, and share your visions with your new Flip Fashion Friends and our skilled mentors, who will teach you the skills that will bring those flip visions to life!
The best thing about re-working existing garments? Not only does it save them from landfill but it allows neuro diverse students an alternative view of clothes construction, so we can learn how they're made without complex patterns and strict instructions.
Included:
- mentorship from a team of socially responsible young fashion talents
- exclusive access to secondhand clothes warehouse Re Place
- $20 worth of Thrift Vouchers to be spent at Re Place (prices range from $5 to $10 per item)
- bundle of fabric 'cuttings' collated by Re Place
- full access to the Green Living Centre's purpose-built studio equipped with circularly sourced sewing machines and supplies
- inclusive, creative space for youth to explore fashion in a non-judgmental environment
- participants can take unfinished projects home along with any supplies needed (within reason)
This event is run by Slogue in collaboration with Re Place and the Inner West Sustainability Hub.
