🌿 Discover the story of our awa!

Bring your whānau along for a fun and interactive Flood-Ready Treasure Hunt at Tui Glen Reserve to learn more about Te Wai o Pareira / Henderson Creek this school holiday!

Working in small teams, children will explore the awa, solve clues, discover the history of the area and learn how our land, waterways and communities are connected to flood resilience.

Along the way, we’ll explore:

💧 The story of Te Wai o Pareira – discover the meaning and history behind this special place.

📸 The awa through time – look at historical photographs and see how the landscape has changed, including erosion and restoration.

🌧️ Flooding & our neighbourhood – use the Flood Viewer to explore flood risk and think about how we can plan safer, more resilient communities.

🌱 Harakeke, native plants & weeds – discover how vegetation protects streambanks, slows water and provides habitat.

🤝 Be part of caring for our awa – hear about local restoration work and find out how you and your whānau can get involved in looking after Te Wai o Pareira.

🏆 And of course… there will be clues to solve, challenges to complete and treasure to discover!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Who can attend?

This event is suitable for the whole family. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

The treasure hunt activities are best suited for children aged 6–13 years, but younger children are welcome to join and can team up with older participants.

Some activities will take place outdoors, so please come prepared for Auckland weather.

🎁 Small treats and treasures will be provided for participants.

Please register every person attending, including all children.

When registering children, don’t forget to enter their age so we can prepare age-appropriate activities and small gifts.
