Event description

Flora and Orchid Monitoring and Data Correlation

The Kooyoora State Park and surrounding bushlands have a large diversity of flora and natural ecosystems. Some of these contain a range of rare, endangered and uncommon species.

Are you interested in the rare and threatened and locally uncommon Flora species of this area?

Interested in learning about and helping preserve these species then think about joining us as we begin to monitor and correlate local data about them. You may be surprised at the diversity of habitats and the things you have over looked.

As part of this program we will be adding data into those data bases such as Australia Living Atlas and the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas so that additional relevant information is available to those decision makers, planners and researchers working in the field.

Throughout the year we will hold a number of workshops and field trips covering various local rare and threatened species plus many unusual and uncommon species.

This is a new innovative program by the Friends and will include how to identifying some of those species and what monitoring and data recording processes can be employed. The development, extent and success of this program will depend on the number of volunteers who are able to get involved, their interests and skills plus the resources we able to access.

We hope this program will grow and develop over a period of time. We are considering the establishment of an adopt a plant program where a person can adopt a specific plant or plants to individually monitor. One of our initial tasks will be to begin to establish a local resource base which will incorporate reference material and equipment that will be accessible to those working in these groups.
