Flora Photography Workshop Sept 2026
Description
Flora Photography Workshop - Spring in Bloom
Sunday 13th September 2026
Australian Botanic Gardens, Mount Annan
There are few better times to photograph the Australian Botanic Gardens than in spring. With the magnificent Paper Daisy display expected to be in full bloom, the Gardens become a sea of colour, texture and light waiting to be explored.
Join Glenn Smith Photography for an immersive half-day photography workshop designed to help you slow down, observe more closely and discover new ways to photograph the natural world.
More than simply photographing flowers, you'll learn how light, colour, perspective and composition can transform an ordinary image into something far more creative and engaging. From sweeping flowerscape images of thousands of Paper Daisies in bloom to intimate studies of shape, texture and detail, this workshop will help you see familiar subjects in new and exciting ways.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is ideal for photographers wanting to:
Improve their flora photography skills.
Learn how to use light creatively when photographing flowers and natural subjects.
Better understand composition and perspective in nature photography.
Gain confidence photographing both large floral displays and smaller details within the landscape.
Slow down and become more intentional in the way they photograph the natural world.
A DSLR or Mirrorless camera is recommended, however photographers of all experience levels are welcome.
Throughout the morning you'll learn:
How to photograph flowers creatively using light and composition.
Techniques for capturing colour, texture and detail.
How changing your position can dramatically improve an image.
Practical camera settings for flora photography.
Ways to create more engaging and artistic nature photographs.
The workshop begins in the classroom where Glenn will introduce the theory and techniques behind photographing flora subjects before heading out into the gardens for several hours of practical photography. Throughout the morning Glenn will provide personalised guidance and demonstrate techniques that can immediately improve your images.
Returning to the classroom we'll finish with a wrap-up session and Q&A, providing participants with the opportunity to discuss techniques, equipment and post-processing considerations.
Running from 8:15 AM until 1:00 PM, this workshop provides plenty of time to photograph some of the Garden's seasonal highlights while learning in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Glenn has been photographing the Australian Botanic Gardens for many years and has been teaching photography workshops there since 2016. His relaxed teaching style has helped hundreds of photographers develop both their technical skills and their ability to observe and photograph the natural world more creatively.
Each participant receives a comprehensive set of workshop notes to take home.
Workshop numbers are limited to just 12 participants to ensure plenty of personalised attention throughout the morning. A minimum of four participants is required for the workshop to proceed.
