Florian Eatery 'Guest Chef Dinner Series' - Denny Baring

Our next guest to join us in the Florian kitchen is Denny Baring - a chef from Melbourne currently working at La Pinta in Reservoir. 

With a statistics background, Denny defected to the kitchen in 2020 after running a Supper Club out of friends’ houses the year before. He would go on to open a bar after hours at Cathedral Coffee, with owner Will, serving natural wines and small plates in flux out of a chaotic non-kitchen. Without formal training or a historical lineage connected to food, Denny finds influence, ideas, and advice from the people, businesses, and offerings in Melbourne’s diverse and changing culinary scene. 

Driven by what we can cook, what we could, and what we should cook, Denny’s menus operate as learning by doing; pressing against the edges to find the bounds.This evening is an opportunity for him to apply his newfound kitchen skills and farm connections to his interests in limitations and bi-products. One dish goes into the next, connected by the waste of the previous in a flurry of crammed ideas and ironic pairings.

Join us, on Sunday 23rd April, 2023, from 6pm for a 6:30pm start at Florian, Carlton North. 
Ticket price includes a shared style set menu. Florian will also be running a beautiful bar on the evening with some special wines and other drinks by the glass and bottle. Denny is offering pescatarian and vegetarian dietaries - if this applies to you, please select when purchasing your tickets. We are unable to cater to any dietary requirements outside of these options. The maximum group size we can accommodate is 6 people. If you are a smaller group, you may be sharing a table with others.

Florian Eatery's Guest Chef Dinner Series
To celebrate our love of food and the chef's behind it, Florian will be playing host to an ongoing series of events that vary in focus from our guest chef's personal and cultural food histories, a specific interest or idea, or those more produce driven in collaboration with local farms, producers and suppliers. 

We've enjoyed getting to know the community that has grown around Florian since we opened early 2021 and would like to take this chance to get together with both new and old friends. We hope this series will expand our sense of community, give opportunity to newcomers like us to Naarm/Melbourne's hospitality scene and hero the relationships that are made when sharing a meal together. 

Florian acknowledges this event series will take place on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri people and would like to pay respects to elders past, present & emerging.
