FLOW MUSIC PRESENTS: PHIL SMART AND JASON LEWIS

September 12th at Haven Byron Bay with another edition of Flow Music programming brings us some of the best that know their way around a dance floor in Australia. We are very proud to welcome Phil Smart and Jason Lewis yet again for a night of euphoric, melodic, progressive, and floor stomping beats. Two of our lifelong favourites and Flow Music regulars will be taking the night for part solo sets and an epic back to back.

PHIL SMART

Phil has been an influential part of the Australian electronic music scene since the early warehouse rave days in Sydney. He’s played lots of records to lots of people in lots of clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, deserts, basements, carparks and bunkers over the years. He’s renowned for playing fresh sounds and forward thinking electronic music and has been involved in putting on some of the most legendary parties and events in Sydney and beyond.

Voted Australian DJ of the Year at the National Dance Music Awards in 2000, and twice voted into DJ Magazine's prestigious list of the world's Top 100 DJs. He’s played at the premier events around Australia including Subsonic, S.A.S.H, Motorik, Love, Sabotage, Tweekin, Mad Racket, Chinese Laundry and Revolver, as well as festivals such as Earth Frequency, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Big Day Out, Falls Festival and Splendour In The Grass. He also held an infamous long-standing residency at Tweekin, the Sydney clubbing institution voted Best Club Night at the 2000 Dance Music Awards and described by DJ Magazine in the UK as "coming under the very short list of proper clubs around the world".

As an indication of musical versatility, Phil has been chosen to play alongside visiting DJs as diverse as Michael Mayer, M.A.N.D.Y., Adam Freeland, Sven Vath, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Sasha, John Digweed and Jose Padilla. International DJ experience includes Funky Teknotribe, Spundaes, Basics, Sunset and Green Gorilla (SF), PS1 (NY), Shambhala (BC), Black Rock City (NV), various places in LA, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, Portland, Vancouver, Toronto and Mexico City; Bedrock and Club UK (London), E-Werk (Berlin) as well as clubs in Asia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

Promoter and/or co-promoter of some of Sydney's most celebrated parties and club nights, including Sabotage, The Project, Jus Right and Organic. Co-founder of record labels Think and Thunk, responsible for early releases by Infusion and Pocket, among others. Released original material and remixes under various guises, including Headland, Earthlink, Altitude and Sprocket, and in collaboration with Francis Xavier, Dave Basek, Jimi Polar and Jon Williams on labels like Motorik, Junkbeatsand Future Classic.

Founder and DJ at YogaSonic, bringing a curated music performance to yoga studios in collaboration with an instructor and delivered on a quality sound system that you can not only hear, but feel. Founder and DJ at Be Hear Now, a sonic immersion and deep listening project of ambient soundscapes and including collaborations with sound healing musicians. Founder and resident DJ at Tempo Comodo, a club night dedicated to the slower realms of danceable beats acrossmany genres with one rule only – a speed limit of 120bpm.

Now residing in Brisbane, with regular slots at Black Bear Lodge, Dragonfruit, Flying Colours and more, he also continues to hold a residency at Club 77 in Sydney. Latest EP ‘Rhythm Effect’ with Francis Xavier out now on Motorik, and the digital re-release of the Thunk and Think back catalogs now available on all good platforms.

JASON LEWIS

Jason Lewis is a respected Australian DJ known for his refined technical ability, deep musical knowledge, and intuitive sense of timing. With over two decades behind the decks, he has become a trusted late-night specialist and local favourite for setting the tone at major events​, warming up for international artists such as house music legend Dave Lee, veteran Dj Norman Jay, deep house aficionado Subb-An and progressive giants ​D-Nox & Beckers, Dave Seaman and Matan Caspi​ to name a few.

Jason has performed on some of the most iconic stages, including Burning Man, Subsonic Festival, Earth Frequency, Chi Wow Wah Town, and many more. A regular on the iconic Love Camp couch and an essential player in the​ Northern Rivers scene, he’s a familiar face at gatherings like Mystic Valley, Playground, Lab Leaked Beats, Lotus, Reverie, BareFoot Beat, Balcony Beats, Renaissance, and Sacred Hearts​. Guided by humility and ​a clear focus for the dancefloor, Jason’s sets are renowned for their ​power, depth​ and emotion​.
