What is therapeutic flying?

Therapeutic flying is a movement practice created through a meeting of acro-yoga and thai massage. It is a mixture of massage and therapeutic touch, playful partner movement and an explorative dance of connecting with your partner.

As the name suggests you are flying! When receiving you experience weightlessness as the giver supports your body in unique ways using gravity to create a deep relaxed feeling like no other.

Why practice?

There is an opportunity to experience and build a deep level of connection and trust between the partners practising. You will awaken your inner child through getting upside down and playing! This powerfully accesses the parasympathetic nervous system to enable our bodies innate healing. 

In a structural sense, the practice is unmatched for creating space in the body, lengthening the spine and tractioning the body, making it an excellent treatment for lower back pain, psoas pain, neck pain and other pain caused by excessive holding or tension.

  • Exercises to build strength & body awareness transferable to the practice
  • Fun partner movement games
  • Beginner flying therapeutic moves 
  • Elements of therapeutic touch
  • Give & receive a guided flying sequence

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you need to have any previous experience?

No, you do not need any previous knowledge of flying therapeutics, acro yoga or massage. We will teach at a beginner level with a progressive manner so there may be something for all abilities. If you do have experience you are welcomed to join and revise your knowledge and connect with your community. 

Do you need a partner/ can I bring a partner?

You do not need a partner, we will partner you up & it’s a great chance to connect with new people to come on your own. If you want to bring a partner to share the experience with, there is a discount option available for those booking together!

Do you need to be flexible/ strong?

No, this workshop is structured to be accessible to all - we value community and inclusion. However please note it is a physical practice. Be ready to challenge yourself physically and please remember you are responsible for listening to your body and respecting your limits.

What do I need to bring?

A water bottle, yoga mat if you have one, towel if you get sweaty when exercising, wear long pants you can move easily in & your smile!

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Monique is passionate about creativity, connection and freedom through movement. She has competed at a state level in olympic weightlifting and in 2019 found the world of circus, falling in love with hand balance, partner acrobatics and acro yoga. She is a fire dancer performing at festivals and events on the east coast over the past three years. She is a practising Registered Nurse and zenthai shiatsu therapist in the northern rivers.
