FNQ Greens Cinema and Silent Auction
Event description
Join your local FNQ Greens Branch for a screening of the award-winning documentary Under Cover: The Hidden Faces of Homelessness, at the Cairns Colonial Club on Thursday 1 August from 6:30pm. This event will take place in the Somerset Meeting Room, best accessed via reception off Canon Street. Please note that, unfortunately, this venue has stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. Ticket admission includes a complimentary drink from the bar (house wine, beer, soft drink or juice) and ticket proceeds support our local candidates in their upcoming state election campaigns.
We will also host a silent auction before the screening, from 6:30-7:30pm, with a range of amazing prizes donated by local businesses, with proceeds going to local women's shelter, Ruth's, to help combat women's homelessness in the Cairns community. About Under Cover
"Narrated by Margot Robbie and sharing the often secret lives of an eclectic group of women across Australia, UNDER COVER shines a light on the devastating reality that women over 50 are the fastest growing cohort experiencing homelessness in the country. Their moving but optimistic portraits reveal the struggles these women face, and lay bare the flaws in our society, as well as our economic fragility in the modern world."
