This is an ONLINE event.

THE LINK WILL BE SENT TO YOU 2 days, 1 day, 12 hours,1 hour BEFORE THE EVENT

This is a LEVEL TWO lecture. You will get more out of it if you have attended the LEVEL ONE lecture, ‘Nursing People Supportively Through Acute Viral Illness including COV-19‘ where you will gain a practical understanding of how meningitis occurs and how to avoid it:

This lecture is a detailed look at the science regarding meningococcal disease from the seminal work done in the USA in the 1960's to today so you understand the science behind the practicalities.

There is also an ebook available which accompanies this lecture: http://www.jayne-donegan.co.uk/articles

Program:

PART ONE: MENINGOCOCCAL ECOLOGY AND THE RISE OF INVASIVE DISEASE IN TEENAGERS

What is meningitis?

What are the currently recommended ‘meningitis’ vaccines?

Factors affecting Immunity

Invasive vs Non-invasive Disease

How do you manage childhood fevers?

There are no 'killer' bugs or 'nightmare' strains.

Is it true that you can harbour lots of infectious organisms in your body and not get an infection from them?

Bacterial Carriage and Commensals

The Meningococcus

How dangerous is it to have a meningococcus up your nose?

Could MR vaccination affect incidence of invasive meningococcal disease?

Cases of invasive MenY and MenW disease have risen. Why?

Have there been any other large scale influences on the immune system of the UK population since 1999?

PART TWO: MENINGOCOCCUS, BABIES, BREASTFEEDING, OTHER INVASIVE BACTERIAL DISEASE, THE MENINGOCOCCAL B VACCINE

What about the effect of breastfeeding?

How does natural immunity to the meningococcus develop?

Not only antibiotics can cause this problem.

What happened after the Hib vaccine was introduced in Finland?

Is there any evidence to show that removing Hib could increase invasive pneumococcal disease?

How can you protect you child against invasive Hib disease?

The vaccine against the Group B meningococcus

Why the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation originally did not advise that it should be introduced to the vaccination schedule.

A case history.

Aims

That those participating

Understand that there are no 'killer' bugs or 'nightmare' strains.

That all bacteria and viruses are potentially pathogenic and capable of casing invasive disease.

It is as easy to die from diseases for which there are vaccines as it is to die from diseases for which there are no vaccines if fevers are incorrectly managed.

It all hinges on your general level of health when you meet the organism - Do you help the body to externalise disease, or do your suppress all the symptoms and stop this from happening?

You will be able to access this lecture from 7.15 PM
