    Guanaco Trio

Based in Buenos Aires, Guanaco Trio consists of three young musicians, from three different continents, performing Argentinian instrumental music. Formed by Laura Urteaga (violin), Owen Salomé (bandoneón) and Benjamín Aedo (guitar), the trio perform a compelling repertoire of original compositions and interpretations of both traditional and contemporary Argentine folkloric music.

The project commenced in 2020. Having met one another studying in the Bachelor of Argentine Music at the National University of San Martín in Buenos Aires, the trio was formed from a mutual love of the music of Argentina, a desire to create a unique interpretation of the style, and the need to make musical connections during the difficult period of worldwide quarantine.

In December of 2021 the group was awarded a grant by the Argentine National Arts Fund (INAMU) to record their first album under the mentorship of the  Pianist/Composer/Producer Andrés Pilar. The recording took place in April of 2022 at the emblematic ION studios in Buenos Aires. “Bajo un mismo cielo” was released by Shagrada Medra in February 2023.

The trio has performed in various theatres in the City of Buenos Aires, as well as in the rest of Argentina. They have also performed in Spain/Catalunya, France (Tarbes en Tango), and Slovakia (World-Music Bratislava).

    Shark & Fox | Emily-Rose Sarkova (AUS) & Jaron Freeman-Fox (CAN)

Frenetic Bulgarian dances, haunting Appalachian twangs, droning Irish reels, Swedish polskas and songs that speak into existence the ephemeral mysteries of life, all effortlessly yet meticulously woven together by the vast shared history of the fiddle and accordion as musical companions. This irresistible Canadian-Australian collaboration shape-shifts between traditions, occasionally to the point that the instruments themselves transform; a fiddle to viol d’amore or fretless guitar, an accordion to modular synthesiser, all driven by their infectious zest for music without boundaries.

Jaron's projects have garnered multiple Canadian music awards, whilst Emily-Rose has been an ARIA and Art Music Award finalist. Both have traversed the globe to learn from musical masters, and imbue their compositions and performances with great depth whilst indulging their penchant for mischief.

Gareth Mewes & The Mewes News

Breaking News!! Gareth Mewes and the Mewes news are here to inform you all about all the latest, and fill your ears with some frenetic virtuosic Gypsy music in the process. Sounding reminiscent of Stephane Grapelli, Django Reinhardt, classical Paganini and fiery Romani music, Gareth has been performing violin for over 25 years, touring Australia, Asia and Europe with an orchestra in his teenage years, traveling around Australia with many bands and receiving a Bachelor in Jazz at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Rory, Conor, Blake and Gareth all keep us up to date with the headlines in their other project ‘Cigany Weaver’ but this instrumental news-show focuses more on keeping the authentic sound of traditional music and Gypsy Jazz. Recent performances include Woodford Folk Festival (2022, 2021, 2020, 2019), Caloundra Music Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival (Since 2001), Palm Creek Folk Festival (2022) and Dark Mofo Festival (2016).
