Explore connections between people, places and food with Arabana man, Elijah Bravington.
During this session you'll learn more about how Indigenous Australians were the first people to grow food sustainably, get to taste some local native foods and join in on the food share.
About Elijah
Elijah Bravington is an Arabana man born in New South Wales and moved to the City of Adelaide on Kaurna Lands when he was two years old.
He studied at Urrbrae Agricultural High School, completed a certificate three in horticulture as well as certificates in business administration and government studies. Elijah then went on to complete a bachelor of science degree in Biodiversity and Conservation and a Graduate Certificate in Public Policy at Flinders University. While there he also Chaired the Flinders University Nunga Club and was the Aboriginal Liaison Officer for the Student council.
He delights in working with the environment and with people to achieve cultural and environmental restoration. He’s worked on establishing marine parks in South Australian waters as well as spending over 10 years on the CFS/Department for Environment fire brigade. He's also worked for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation as a Heritage GIS Officer and the South Autralian Film Corporation as an Aboriginal Screen Development Executive.
Elijah has a passion for self-determining practices through community development and good governance. He's served on the Aboriginal Lands Trust boards, the Arabana Parks Advisory Committee, Chaired Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute and is a signatory to The Uluru Statement from the Heart.
He now works at the City of Onkaparinga as a Community Development Officer based at the Neporendi Aboriginal Community Centre in Old Reynella.
He also enjoys working on different storytelling techniques and has completed an Our Stories documentary for NITV. He’s also currently restoring a vintage kitchen cabinet and a Datsun Roadster.
