Food as unity - a Palestinian story
Event description
Preserving food, culture, and community is about nurturing the heart of society. When we preserve traditional recipes and culinary practices, we safeguard our cultural heritage, passing down flavors and stories from one generation to the next. Beyond the kitchen, preserving community spaces and traditions fosters belonging and solidarity, creating bonds that transcend differences. In an ever-changing world, preserving these pillars of identity and connection is vital for maintaining a sense of belonging, continuity, and shared humanity.
Sandra Bahbah-Gleeson is a Palestinian cook - she ran Meast food trailer for five years and currently runs Palestinian Cooking Class fundraisers in collaboration with Chris’ Kitchen. She was the first of her family born in Australia, and as a Palestinian in diaspora her roots were firmly ingrained in her through food. Food is hugely important in her culture, as it’s through food we show our love, unity and passion for the flavours of the Middle East. Join us as we journey through the history of this cuisine and its importance in preserving this culture.
Sandra will make foul medames - a traditional Palestinian dip for people to try.Â
Part proceeds will be donated to families from Gaza.
