Event description

Want to become a more active food citizen? Want to have more of a say in our food system?

Then join us for this series of three interactive workshops focusing on individual, community and regional action within the food system. Co-hosted by The Food Embassy and The City of Unley, we're exiting to be bringing you 3 amazing guest speakers. The sessions will be packed full of informative content, practical skills, and take-home resources for you to use in the workshop and beyond. Plus there will be lots of time to workshop and contribute to the conversation.

A light snack and drink will be provided.

Be inspired, be challenged but most of all be changed.

Food Democracy #1: Food Democracy at an Individual Level (Wed 1 May, 6pm - 8pm)

For the first workshop, our special guest is Vicki Rich, permaculture expert, experienced gardener and community development advocate. Vicki will share her passion for urban permaculture, food sovereignty and her story of becoming a food citizen and climate advocate to support a more resilient food system.

We will also be covering content specific to defining Food Democracy and its attributes.

Food Democracy #2: Food Democracy at a Community Level (Wed 8 May, 6pm - 8pm)

For the second of three workshops, our special guest is Annemarie Brookman from The Food Forest. Farmer, educator and activist for community permaculture and someone who continues to create a resilient food system alongside her community. Created in partnership with her husband, Graham, the Food Forest is a permaculture farm and learning centre that highlights how home and land can be managed sustainably and profitably. You can also find Annemarie at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market.

Food Democracy #3: Food Democracy at a Regional Level (Wed 15 May, 6pm - 8pm

For the third workshop, our special guest is Linda Enright who has worked in the local government sector for over 15 years. She is currently the Healthy Lifestyle Officer at the City of Onkaparinga. This role supports a wide range of food initiatives promoting health and wellbeing in our community. Linda has had a key role in the SA Food Systems Network group and was involved in a submission and presentation to SA enquiry into Food Security and has played a role in advocating to support a stronger role for local government in this space. She is passionate about building a sense of community and the sharing of stories, skills and knowledge.
