Food Forest Design and Philosophy
Event description
Food Forest Design and Philosophy
Come join us at Ōtākaro Orchard to learn about Food Forest Design and Philosophy.
We will investigate the physiology of plants to understand how they are intimately connected with their surrounding ecosystems, and how healthy soil life is an important part of a plants immune system and in sequestering carbon. As a permanent resilient whole system, we will look into how all energy is harnessed, stored and recycled within a food forest.
Exploring the 7 layers of the food forest canopy, we will look at the plants of the food forest, their interconnections and beneficial relationships, companion planting, guilds, plant choice and placement within design.
The workshop will be held outside at Ōtākaro Orchard food forest so please bring appropriate footwear and weather protection.
In the event of rain the workshop will be held within the building, so bring an umbrella or rain jacket to tour the food forest.
A compost toilet and portaloo is onsite. Public toilets are located at the Margret Mahy playground across the road.
Proceeds go towards completion of the project.
