Iga Warta translates as the place of the Native Orange. It is an Aboriginal owned and run tourism resort in the remote Flinders Ranges that provides a broad range of cultural immersion tours. Joining forces with Food Gardening in Remote Australia this live-in workshop provides an opportunity to learn about the culture, learn about growing food and contribute to this exceptional community.

Access to fresh nutritious food is critical to health yet is limited - particularly for remote Aboriginal people due to distance from wholesale and retail markets and limited financial resources. Local fresh food sources are also very restricted due to absence of growing systems and from disruption to local foods due to ecological destruction or displacement. Within this, there are examples of effective food gardening projects that have met the challenges - community, environmental, and remoteness in implementing projects that connect Aboriginal people with fresh, nutritious food. This course will give you practical experience applicable to your own food production and an appreciation of the depth and breadth of Aboriginal culture. We will discuss the specifics of growing remotely, accessing wild bush food and implementing food gardening projects.
