Wondering what you actually need to put on food and beverage labels or not 100% sure if your current labels align with Australian standards? Then we have the workshop for you!
Calling all Mid West foodies to join with DPIRD, MWFIA and food labelling expert, Cheryl Hughes, for an informative half day workshop on all things food and beverage labelling. Whether you are just starting or an established business, this workshop will ensure you are up to date with the current requirements for labelling.
The half day course will cover:
Overview of the food labelling legislation to include FSANZ Food Standards Code, Country of Origin and Trade Measurement legislation.
Breakdown of the labelling Standards in simple terms with examples to show how to comply.
Common mistakes made, including examples of labelling errors that have results in product recalls.
Other labelling requirements as per the FSANZ Produce Standards (product category specific items).
Brief overview on proposed upcoming changes to the labelling Standards.
We also encourage businesses to bring in their own labels as our expert will be able to discuss and provide general guidance.
The agenda for the day will include:
Arrival: 9.00 am
Workshop Start: 9.30 am
Workshop End: 1.30 pm
Networking Lunch: 1.30 - 2.00 pm
Label Consultations: 2.00 - 4.00 pm (participants are welcome to stay and discuss their individual labels with Cheryl for a general review/guidance).
A small ticket fee ($25 plus fees) is chargeable for the event to cover morning tea and lunch on the day. Please note due to the size of the workshop no food options will catered for, but we will ensure a variety of options.
This workshop is made possible via the Regional Collaboration Agreement between DPIRD and the Mid West Food Industries Alliance (MWFIA).

Cheryl Hughes
Cheryl Hughes is a qualified Food Technologist with over 30 years experience across all food industry sectors including cook chill, meat, seafood, dairy, smallgoods, confectionery, bakery and produce. Cheryl has extensive food safety experience with food service for vulnerable populations within WA public and private hospitals. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Food Science & Technology (AIFST), and is the current Chair for the WA Branch of the Institute of Hospitality in Healthcare (IHHC).
