Event description

During autumn, many animals begin to gather food to store for winter. With that in mind, we're offering a series of food preservation classes!

WORKSHOP ONE | Tuesday, Sept 10 5:30p - 7:30p

Canning 101

Our first workshop will be led by Dr. Shauna Henley, a Senior Family & Consumer Sciences Agent with the University of Maryland Extension. She has taught over 150 hands-on food preservation workshops. Come join us Sept. 10th at 5:30 pm to learn how to preserve your garden's bounty, or learn a new skill to safely preserve through canning.

WORKSHOP TWO| Saturday, Sept 21 2:00pm - 4:00pm

International Food Excursion

Join us for the second workshop in our Food Processing Series with a "Market Crawl" — a group field trip designed to enhance your skills in selecting high-quality produce. Just like a bar crawl, but with a focus on fresh ingredients and global cuisine, this event will take us to local markets where we will:
Learn About Ingredients in Global Cuisine: Learn about fruits, herbs, spices, and other food products that can be found in local international markets that cater to the diverse communities in Baltimore and how to incorporate them into your cooking.

Evaluate Produce for Quality and Ripeness: Learn how to choose the best melons, avocados, citrus fruits, tomatoes, and more.

Get Expert Tips: Our guide will provide insights into what to look for when selecting ingredients that we will use in our upcoming workshops

This event is perfect for adults looking to expand their culinary skills, especially in preparing delicious, fresh meals. Whether you're a seasoned cook or just starting out, this Market Crawl will provide valuable knowledge and a fun, interactive experience.

WORKSHOP THREE | Saturday, Sept 28 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Kimchi Making

We're excited to announce the third workshop in our Food Preservation Series, focusing on a hands-on session making Kimchi! This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of fermentation and preservation, using fresh, locally sourced ingredients such as cabbage, green onions, cucumbers, and tomatoes.

What to Expect:
