How can we create meaningful, community connected and intergenerational learning through food, sustainability and the natural environment? This is a critical conversation for people, place and planet. During this zoom conversation our panelists will share some of the projects they are involved with and explore how these create new opportunities for diverse learners.

Panelists:

Hamish Duff is a technologist, futurist and permaculturist. He serves on the board of the Food Resilience Network Canterbury, focusing on creating a regenerative food future. Hamish is involved in the establishment of the Ōtākaro Orchard, a living learning environment where people can grow, cook, and preserve their own fruit and veggies; and where community experts will share their skills, teaching the community where our food comes from and how to grow it ourselves. Intergenerational knowledge sharing is a key part of this work.

Kate Russell has a 30 year history in the community sector, with governance and executive roles in a number of well-known kiwi charities. She is currently the Programmes and Partnerships Manager at Christchurch City Council. Her focuses are on the public experience of parks, education and the training of our horticultural interns and community engagement and participation in our city’s green space.

Fiona Stewart is a social entrepreneur with extensive experience in nonprofit organisations, crisis intervention, young people, conflict resolution, and facilitation. She is co-founder of Cultivate Christchurch a social enterprise focused on youth development through urban farming. Cultivate Christchurch is on a mission to inspire and engage young people who are not currently in education, employment or training. They do it outdoors - with their hands in the dirt.
