Fool Around: A Pink Ponies Burning Man Fundraiser

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Greetings, fools! On April 1, come join the Pink Ponies, a queer-centered Burning Man community, for our first Portland fundraiser and dance party.  We are thrilled to share some queer burner energy with Portland and showcase some incredible artists throughout the night.  Put on your prettiest pink and come sparkle with us at Rainbow City—a colorful, irreverent, and inclusive venue in the heart of Portland.

Music!

Dance all night to upbeat house and high-energy remixes provided by two of our favorite DJs and producers: DJ Blacklow (Insta: @djblacklow) and DJ LéMix (Insta: @thesewerethedays).

Performers!

Gag at the lewks, moves, lip synchs, and overall ferocity of several talented Portland performing artists: Atlas (Insta: @partyxmonster), Lala Benét (Insta: @lalabenet), and Silhouette (Insta: @silhouettepdx).

Fashion!

Dig down deep, and show us the pink.  As our name suggests, we’d love for you to put together a sexy, sparkly, and/or silly party look that features the color pink.  Don’t have much pink?  Who cares!  All that matters is that you feel great and have the freedom to express yourself.

Art!

Admire the crafts of several artists and designers who will be vending at the event.  When you need a little break from dancing, why not do a little shopping?

Wait, who are you?

Pink Ponies is a kind and welcoming collection of queer-identifying campers at Burning Man. (For more on this amazing event, and it’s guiding principles check out burningman.org).  We celebrate randomness and playfulness in this weirdly joyful community.  We oppose all forms of racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, and ageism. Comprised of veteran and virgin burners, we launched in 2022 and look forward to returning to the playa in 2023 and beyond.  We hail from all over the US and Canada, including several members who live in Portland.  To see a glimpse of our experiences on the playa, check out our Instagram: @burningmanpinkponies.

What are we paying for?

We are a registered nonprofit organization, and all proceeds from this event will be used to make Burning Man a more accessible, and inclusive experience.  Our fundraising helps offset the cost of camping at Burning Man for burners facing socioeconomic obstacles.  We are asking $10 for advanced tickets, or $15 at the door.  However, if you would like to attend the event but cannot comfortably afford tickets at this price, please DM us @burningmanpinkponies on Insta or FB.  If you wanna hang with us, we’d love to have you.

What do you mean by “queer burner energy”?

Our intention for this event, and for our camp, is to blend together the best attributes of Burning Man and queer culture.  This means creating space for ethical creative expression, sex positivity, and gender fluidity, all experienced against a backdrop of radical inclusion, generosity, open minds, and enthusiastic consent.  Follow whatever paths your minds and bodies desire, and embrace the wonderful weirdos you meet along the way.  We acknowledge how difficult it can be to let go of judgment—of yourself and of others—but we hope that a touch of Burning Man, with a healthy dose of queerness, can give you a helping hand.
