Bands, Djs, community and awareness.

Footscray, the cultural hub of Melbourne and the Inner West, has been heavily affected by market driven trends and gentrification, creating increasing class divides and chipping away at the uncut gem that is slowly eroding.

The sensationalisation of the media has configured the narrative of Footscray as 'dangerous' and turned into 'an absolute dumpster fire', blaming the increasing displacement and decreasing housing affordability as moral imperfections rather than systemic pressures and structural violence. Governmental policies and campaigns have increasingly favoured the rich, and everyone wonders why there are increasing cultural and class antagonisms. We are working closely with Bordelands Cooperative, and the People's Plan for Footscray, whose aims are as follows:

The People's Plan for Footscray is about advocating for and helping activate democratisation in public decision making; building community capacity and institutions that will sustain popular power.

Although one event cannot change the current climate and stereotype, it is imperative we come together as a community to challenge the status quo of Footscray, and celebrate community connectedness.

This event will be showcasing:

Bands:

Annwen Roberts - An improvising violinist and composer based in Naarm, Annwen blends jazz and folk with a strong emphasis on Irish folk melodies, gypsy jazz texture and free improvisation. With lush and rhythmic flows, their music is imbued heartfelt story telling and warm felt sensations

Francesca Fimeri - Francesca's music blends rich, emotionally driven songwriting with a refined jazz sensibility. Influenced by artists like Samora Pinderhughes, Yebba, and Sarah Kinsley, she merges contemporary pop and soul to create ballads that are both intimate and expansive

Sapphire street - The three diamonds of Melbourne, Sapphire street comprises psychedelic rock and art-rock with dreamy licks and groovy jams.

Greeble - A 4 piece post-rock and shoegaze masterpiece, Greeble is embellished with Radiohead-ish textures whilst oscillating between odd time signatures and Jazz-influenced grooves. Their experimental sound is one that take you on a journey through time and space

Djs:

IVAANA B2B LUNA:

Cross culture icons, IVANNA and Luna weaving beautiful genre agnostic journeys for a while together and we are excited to host their undeniable synergy. Be ready for a wild ride

CHEAHDX:

hailing from Boorloo - Peth, having invented the term "community man" with his omnipotnence around the Naarm scene and inhumane ability to bring the sillies to the dance floor. Cheadx/Darren is blessing us with bass fresh off his Hopkins debut - catch him closing spit before he's doing laps of the world

TICKETS: $25

All funds will be going to:

Footscray Community Response: a group mobilising in Footscray to combat the uprising Right wing and advocate for the voices and residents of Footscray. They have been organising free breakfasts and coffee in the mall for Rough sleepers throughout miscellaneous mornings during the week, and these proceeds will go towards funding this project as they have been supplementing this with their own time and money.

The Nicholson street mall has been over flooded with cops, with labor MP threatening to open it up as a road, threatening displacement for all of the mall residents. Ignorance is not bliss, and we all need to come together to address the abhorrent neglect experienced by these residents from several politicians and council figures that are treating the rough sleepers as if they're pests rather than people that need dignity, and in the act of trying to push them out of Footscray they are further aggravating the situation.

Grandmother's Against Removal: A grass-roots Indigenous Australian organisation that campaign and organise against forced removal of Indigenous children from their families. They provide a range of services and advocacy campaigns that navigate complex child protection systems.
