In 2025 the Footscray Hospital will move from its current site on Gordon Street to a new building - leaving a significant government-owned site for potential redevelopment.

Walk the History, Imagine the Future is presented by 'Reimagining Old Footscray Hospital Community Group' - residents passionate about the future of our community with a strong interest in ensuring the redevelopment of the Footscray hospital site delivers significant community benefits.

The community walking tour is a chance to hear about key points in the hospital site's history and recent resident activities to promote community thinking about the site's future, and to imagine and discuss what you would love to see on the site.

As we walk around the site we will hear from:

- Caroline Milburn, former Age journalist and author of 'The People's Hospital - Tales from the surgeon's table' https://www.whpeopleshospital....

- John Jovic - brutalist architecture nerd and heritage activist

- A former staff member, patient and resident

- Local residents on recent community visioning and action.

We look forward to meeting you and discussing the site history and future together.

Practical stuff

Meet at Gordon Street Hospital entrance at 160 Gordon Street, under the 'Western Health Main Entrance Carpark' sign on Gordon Street. Please arrive by 2.55 pm as the tour will start on time.

The tour will run from 3 pm with the formal part concluding at 4.30 pm with refreshments at Berbert Park (Southampton/Swan St end of hospital), activities for kids, questions for speakers, and a sharing of ideas and thoughts on the site potential and future community-run engagement and idea generation.

Well-behaved dogs on leads and children are welcome. We will have some activities for the kids at the park at the end.

The tour will run in all weather conditions (other than severe rain or thunderstorms) so dress for the weather.

The site is generally accessible with one curb and road to cross with some uneven ground. Please let us know any accessibility requirements and we will do our best to accommodate.

Photographs and videos of the tour will be taken and may be used on social media or webpage. Please let the photographer know if you do not want to be photographed.
