Our "For Nature Catch Ups" will be a series of workshops, garden visits and masterclasses during 2021 and beyond to share knowledge and inspiration for Margaret River residents to help nature in their suburban backyards, bush blocks and rural properties.

Our first Catch Up is a garden visit and tour of Margaret River resident Peta Goodwin's property. It's an inspiring example of how to combine a productive, edible plot with a nature and wildlife garden on a quarter-acre suburban block. PLUS the first 10 people to register for tickets will each receive a $40 voucher for native plants from the Tube Nursery in Cowaramup!

Peta’s garden is 20 years in the making, with lovely mature shade trees mixed with an array of fruit trees and vegetable beds. Quirky and interesting, it’s a delight to explore, with quiet places to sit and contemplate. It’s also alive with birds and bees, visiting quendas and possums, and a gaggle of reptiles thanks to native plantings and a wildlife pond.

The front yard is a nature haven planted with a great array of bird-attracting natives. Peta, assisted by Nature Conservation Margaret River staff, will run you through which species to plant - and which to avoid - to bring wildlife to your garden.

The backyard meanwhile is dedicated to food, with avocado, fig, citrus, mango and many other fruit trees. Peta will share her knowledge and insights about waterwise wicking beds (she's made five from salvaged materials, high enough to avoid bending over). Plus find out how to build a compost system from pallets; tips for successful worm farming; and other great ways to attract wildlife to your garden.

Note: Participants are required to organise their own transport to and from the property. Street parking available. Please arrive 5 minutes early as the tour will begin at 10am.
