Forests, People and Prosperity: Building a Sustainable Future for the Amazon.
Description
Our next meeting will feature three researchers from CU Boulder who are partnering with The Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force in a quest to build economically sustainable communities that will protect the Amazon rainforest while creating economic opportunities for local communities and Indigenous peoples.
The Governors’ Climate and Forests Task Force is the world’s largest subnational network dedicated to protecting forests, reducing emissions, and enhancing livelihoods across the tropics.
At the core of this work is the fact that equitable, collaborative partnerships between governments, Indigenous Peoples, and local or traditional communities are essential for guaranteeing the human and territorial rights of key forest guardians. These partnerships are also critical for conserving important forested regions of our world; the people who live in and depend upon forests know these places best and have strategies that we all can learn from.
I hope you will be able to attend this important discussion meeting. Please feel free to invite other members of the community who might want to attend. If you have any questions or suggestions about our discussion series, please contact Robert McNown at mcnownr@gmail.com.
