Join Forge Gymnastics Education for Forge Bars Series #2: Take Flight, a practical coach education workshop focused on developing Shap, Pak and Overshoot skills on the uneven bars.
Presented by Ben Barnard, this workshop will explore the technical foundations, progressions, spotting and coaching considerations involved in developing these flight skills.
What we'll cover:
Technical breakdown of Shaps, Paks and Overshoots
Drills and progressions for Shaps, Paks and Overshoots
Physical preparation and shaping
Common errors and how to address them
Spotting techniques and coaching considerations
The workshop will help coaches understand the technical aspects of these skills, how to identify what may be limiting an athlete, and how to select appropriate progressions, drills and coaching strategies to safely develop these skills.

Ben Barnard
Ben brings over 15 years of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics coaching experience across all levels, including international-level coaching. He is a FIG Level 3 (High Performance) WAG Coach and Exercise Physiologist.
Ben is currently a Senior Coach at Northern Districts Gymnastics Club and has served as State Team Head Coach in 2025 and 2026. With extensive high-performance coaching experience and his role as a State Presenter and Assessor, Ben is passionate about coach development and sharing practical knowledge that coaches can apply in the gym.
Practical spotting opportunities:
The workshop will include opportunities for coaches to practice spotting techniques throughout the practical component.
You do not need to bring your own athlete to participate in the workshop or practical spotting opportunities. Athletes will be available for coaches to work with during the spotting component.
This is a Gymnastics WA-sanctioned event. Coaches will receive updating points for attending.
