Forming a River’s Edge - Embodied Movement and Drawing Workshop

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Moving through a landscape can be considered drawing and vice versa, drawing a landscape can be reflected upon as movement!

In this workshop artists Maggie Ellis, Rhae Kendrigan and Kris Tito will take you on a series of gentle embodied investigations, connecting to the natural surroundings of Loch Garry Wetlands. The artists will facilitate creative drawing and movement activities that will connect us to our bodies, the environment and each other.

The workshop will start at Bunbartha Community Centre, with doors opening at 9:30am, so that you can arrive and settle into the space. In the centre you can spend time connecting with the artists’ creative research from their time spent at the wetlands and their open studio sharing with the Bunbartha community.

As a group we will carpool down to Loch Garry Wetlands from the centre, this will help reduce the number of vehicles entering the wetlands.

Here we will explore a small number of locations through walking, contemplation and witnessing. We’ll listen to our senses taking notice of the differing speeds, movements, sounds, temperatures and textures of the wetlands. We’ll experiment with a range of creative techniques, including mark making with our bodies or with drawing materials, movement in the natural landscape and reflective discussions.

Finishing back at the centre, we’ll collate our creative findings as part of the artists research of Loch Garry Wetlands and the Bunbartha Community Centre. These experiments will inform the development of the artist's performance the following day, as a celebration of the uniqueness of this place and community.

What to bring to the workshop:

  • Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent and or in the event of inclement weather a raincoat and umbrella, as the workshop will take place in light rain.
  • Wear sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes to move in.
  • A packed lunch/snacks.
  • Backpack
  • Water bottle
  • Notebook/pen
  • A small easy to carry camp chair, if you need to take short rests and can’t easily sit on the ground.
  • Some drawing materials and paper will be provided, however you are more than welcome to bring your own materials as well.
  • It's also a lovely opportunity to bring materials to share if you can, as this can add to the experimental nature of the workshop!

Other workshop considerations:

  • There may be limited phone reception.
  • Toileting facilities are back at Bunbartha Community Centre.
  • You will need to be able to comfortably walk up to 1km on uneven surfaces.

Please note that this is a free workshop capped at 16 participants, bookings are essential. You must be 18+ to participate in this workshop.
