Concert and album launch

A celebration of new music recorded by the Benaud Trio and the composers who created it.

For the Record will launch two new albums featuring local Adelaide composers - David Kotlowy’s heavenly Empyrean Traces and Raymond Chapman-Smith’s timeless Nachschriften / Ländler for solo piano. The Benauds will also give the long-awaited Adelaide première of Anne Cawrse’s Songs Without Words and perform for the first time Az Lalaei ta Bidarei, a dramatic portrayal of the 2022 Iranian uprising by Puya Mehman Pazir.

The Benaud Trio is one of Australia’s finest chamber ensembles. Formed in Melbourne in early 2005, pianist Amir Farid, violinist Lachlan Bramble, and cellist Ewen Bramble have established themselves as formidable performers of the major repertoire, works by Australian composers and are well known for their outrageous pop-inspired encores.

The Benauds were winners of the Piano Trio Prize at the 2005 Australian Chamber Music Competition and completed a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in July 2006. Apart from their regular appearances at Melbourne Recital Centre and Elder Hall, the Benaud Trio has given many performances in regional centres including Ballarat, Daylesford, Mount Barker, Port Fairy, Flinders and Mount Macedon. They were Musicians-in-Residence at 3MBS FM from 2007 to 2009 and recipients of the Contemporary Masters Performance Award at Melbourne Recital Centre in 2013. The Benauds are audience favourites on ABC Classic and have released five acclaimed albums.
