Join Urban Design Forum Australia for our next Forum Forum event for 2024 with keynote speaker Michael Frazzetto, director of Six Degrees Architects, who will share his team's experience working on the City of Melbourne's Munro development. We'll start with a welcome drink followed by a general members update and a presentation by our featured guest speaker, and finish with some informal drinks and/or dinner
The Munro precinct is a vital part of the $250m Queen Victoria Market Renewal and is one of Australia’s largest mixed use precincts. Delivered as a joint venture by Six Degrees and Bates Smart Architects, it includes a 500 space underground carpark, fine grain retail on the ground, a pub, BTR housing, social apartments, a hotel, office space, landscape terraces and the City of Melbourne’s new narrm ngarrgu Library and family services building. Michael will discuss the opportunities and challenges around mixed use and how the project achieves Rob Adam’s ‘Rules for Good City Making’ including Density, Mixed use, Connectivity, High quality public realm and Local character.
Michael Frazzetto is a Director at Six Degrees Architects and specialises in the design of mixed use, cultural precincts around Australia. He is an Honours graduate from the University of Melbourne and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen under the internationally recognised Urbanist Prof. Jan Gehl. His observations of cities and people have been shaped by extensive travels and a period working in Amsterdam. During Six Degrees’ early formative period of working in hospitality, Michael gained a deep understanding of social interaction, what brings people joy and what makes them feel connected. He balances his macro, big-picture approach with the detail of a crafted human-scaled focus. Michael is also an AIA member as well as a contributor to the Melbourne Design Review Panel.
