This forum will focus on how we Train to Retain our ‘knowledge’ capital and how we develop our people to sustain it.

This often quoted (and misquoted) adage has been attributed to Ford, Levi Lusko, Peter F Drucker, Rick Godwin, Peter Baekund plus many, many others.

But another famous business leader took a slightly different perspective:

Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to. – Richard Branson, Founder, Virgin.

This “glass half full” approach to training is becoming increasingly critical in today’s world. The value of retaining a well-trained, motivated, empowered worker cannot be understated.

Training and development are crucial processes in any organisation that aim to improve employee skills, knowledge, and performance.

Training focuses on providing specific skills and knowledge related to a job or task, while development is more long-term and focuses on enhancing employees' abilities to take on new roles and responsibilities within the organisation.

Effective training and development programs help increase productivity, reduce turnover rates, and improve overall job satisfaction among employees. These programs can be delivered through a variety of methods, including on-the-job training, mentoring, coaching, workshops, and e-learning.

With a rapidly ageing workforce in many industries, knowledge retention when transitioning to retirement is a critical issue.
