Event description

Foundations of Basketry: A Mindful Making Workshop

Discover the calming rhythm of traditional basketry in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop.

We'll explore the foundational techniques of starting a basket, using slow, thoughtful finger work to guide natural materials into form.
Rooted in mindfulness and quiet connection, this session offers a gentle space to tune in—to your hands, your breath, and to those creating beside you.
No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to slow down. So too, if you are experienced, come and expand your skills.

All materials provided. These will include twines of different colours to create some really fabulous textures.

BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL as there are limited spots available.

Here's what is available for you in attending this workshop:-

🌿 Mindfulness & Presence

The slow, repetitive nature of basket weaving naturally encourages a meditative state. With no rush and no screen, participants can drop into a quiet rhythm, becoming present with their breath, their hands, and the materials.

🤲 Tactile Grounding

Using the hands in detailed, deliberate ways calms the nervous system. This kind of fine finger work helps ground the body and mind, offering a sense of stability—especially soothing in times of stress or distraction.

🤝 Connection & Community

Working side by side in silence or conversation builds subtle, nourishing bonds. There’s something deeply human about shared making—a nonverbal form of connection that creates trust, empathy, and belonging.

🌾 Reconnection with Nature

Using natural, raw materials like plant fibers fosters appreciation for the earth’s offerings. It invites reflection on sustainability, impermanence, and the beauty of organic forms.

🌀 Creative Confidence

For many, starting a basket is an accessible creative act—even for those who don’t see themselves as “artistic.” There's a quiet pride in shaping something useful and beautiful with your own two hands.

🕊️ Emotional Processing & Healing

The rhythm of weaving can become a container for emotions—grief, joy, tension, calm. Participants often find that making allows space to feel without needing words, and to release gently through the hands.
