Foundations of Japanese Brush Calligraphy
Event description
Class Description: Discover the art of Chinese and Japanese brush calligraphy in this four-week studio experience designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. While rooted in the broader brush traditions of East Asia, this course will focus on the three scripts of the Japanese language: hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Students will learn foundational brush techniques and explore the cultural significance of each script. No knowledge of Japanese is required. The methods taught are also valuable for those interested in Chinese calligraphy. In the final two sessions, students will create a calligraphy art piece to take home.
