Foundations of Primary Prevention of Violence against Women (1 day course)

About this course

This one-day course is based on the Australian national Change the Story framework for preventing violence against women, developed by Our Watch. It includes a range of interactive activities and resources.

Foundations of Primary Prevention of Violence against Women will provide participants with an introduction to:

a primary prevention approach to addressing the underlying determinants of violence against women.
the 4 gendered drivers of violence against women.
other drivers of violence against women.
essential actions to challenge drivers of violence against women.
actions that individuals and organisations can take to prevent violence against women.
managing resistance at the individual and organisational level.
embedding strategies for wellbeing and sustainability.

Cost: $80. Includes Course booklet, Attendance certificate, morning tea and lunch.

Course Facilitators:

Alicia Gibbs / Preventing Violence Together

Alicia Gibbs is a social worker who is committed to tackling the underlying causes of inequality and gender-based violence. She currently leads Preventing Violence Together, a joint initiative of the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing and Stopping Family Violence, working to build the capacity of the primary prevention sector in Western Australia. She is part of the team developing Western Australia’s first primary prevention of violence against women practice and workforce capability framework.

Karen Binning / Preventing Violence Together

Karen Binning has a background in gender equality work within organisational development and human resources roles in the private, tertiary and government sectors. She is a facilitator of Griffith University’s MATE (Motivating Action Through Empowerment) Bystander programs and AUSMASA’s (Australian Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance) Building Safe and Respectful Workplaces courses. Karen also specialises in wellbeing training and is an accredited workplace Mindfulness facilitator with the Oxford University Centre for Mindfulness.
