Foundations Of Business Management | Young Entrepreneurs Hub
Event description
Do you have a business idea that you would love to bring to life? Join us at the Young Entrepreneurs Hub in January where we will be working to help you build and launch your own business.Â
Over two action-packed days, we will be working with high school students to build their own businesses as part of the Young Entrepreneurs Hub. With the program hosted at the WeWork Co-Working Space in Brisbane City, and facilitated by the expert BOP team, this is a great opportunity for young people looking to bring their business ideas to life.
For our program on the 16th and 17th of January, we will have a specific focus on helping students understand the basics of business management. Over the course of the two days, we will be exploring topics around business legals, finance, operations, investment, and analytics. These skills are essential for every entrepreneur and will help students lay a solid foundation for this business.Â
For this program we have been lucky enough to secure three industry masterclasses on the second day programming with Pitcher Partners, BOP Industries and McCullough Robertson Lawyers. These masterclasses will cover,Â
FinanceÂ
Knowing how to manage your money is a key skill required of any business owner. We will be having an accountant join us to chat to students about how to manage their budgets, things to be aware of when they start to generate revenue, and some basic financial literacy skills. As part of this masterclass, we will also be working with students to set up some basic budget spreadsheets to start tracking their business finances and performance. We will also be exploring financial strategies for students looking to continue growing their business as we touch on the concepts of bootstrapping, and raising investment.Â
Legals
When it comes to the legal side of things, we will be organising for a lawyer to join our students to explain some of the basic things students need to be aware of when registering for a business, and when running their business. We’ll be covering topics around how to register your business and what policies you will need in place when you start operating.Â
Operations
When your business starts operating, it can be an exciting but stressful time. We’ll be taking some time to work with students to help them set up efficient systems and processes that will help ensure things run smoothly as they continue to grow. As part of our operations masterclasses, we’ll be exploring a series of low cost or no cost software for students to use to manage communications with clients, to gain useful analytics on how their business is performing, and to help streamline their processing in day to day operations.Â
Our Young Entrepreneurs Hub Program has been designed for high school students looking to bring their business ideas to life. Over the course of the two days students will be connecting with other like-minded young people, hearing from mentors in the field, and working with the BOP team as we guide them along their business journey.Â
Each day, students will start with a quick check-in with the BOP team before diving into a masterclass on the focus topic for the day. From there they will be free to work on their business as they apply their newfound knowledge and skills. Throughout the day the BOP team will check in with the students to provide support, and mentors will also be available to inspire and empower attendees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who Is This Program For?
This program is open to students in Grades 7-12 from across South-East Queensland. We typically only take up to 20 students per program to keep the group small.Â
Do I Need A Business Idea Already?
We do ask that students have a business idea before entering the program. Whilst they don't need to have a product or service ready to sell just yet, we do ask that they have a clear idea on what they would like their business to do.Â
What Do Students Need To Bring?
Students will need to bring a device (preferably a laptop) to work on over the course of the program. In addition to this, we ask that they bring morning tea and lunch each day. All other equipment will be provided.Â
When Will The Program Run?
The program will run from 9am - 3pm on Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th of January 2023. Students are welcome to arrive from 8:30am and can stay until 4pm should they wish.Â
