Who Is Pilea?
Pilea is a community of coaches, investors, founders, and leaders in the startup community. We work together to equip and empower other members of the startup community so that they, too, can become leaders who work ecologically, meaning that their efforts are good for self, good for others, and good for the environment.

We achieve our goals through community (like this), as well as through individual and team coaching and consulting. Our coaches are leaders, founders, professional coaches, therapists, and strategists who understand startups intimately.

FAB stands for Founders Against Burnout, which is both a title and a mission. We built FAB for founders to foster community and to help each other create companies that are sustainable for ourselves and for our teams. Not yet a member of FAB? Bootstrapping Women’s Circle
This is a circle, which means the agenda is created and driven by the members in the room. This is more than a loose collection of people, though; this is a dedicated group of founders interested in increasing self-awareness, getting support from one another, and leveling up leadership capability.

Meet Your Coach
This group is facilitated by Pilea coach, Monica Borrell. Monica has years of experience bootstrapping companies and building teams as a founder as well as having worked as a consultant and coach to other companies both bootstrapped and VC funded.

She has a breadth of personal experience to share in addition to her skills as a coach to help you uncover blind spots, understand your challenges in a different way and find solutions to move you forward with the input and support of your peers.

Circle Purpose
To build our networks, to learn from each other (as well as from an expert coach), and to share resources to support our personal and professional success as we build our companies.

We all contribute to this group and define roles at the beginning of each session:

Circle Structure

We will meet for 1 hour, once per month
The group starts on the hour
5 minutes to arrive and connect
Commitment reader presents commitments (or one commitment at a time) and gets an “I agree” from every participant
Group members check in and ask for space

Circle Commitments
The circle should create these together. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Show Up: We all commit to showing up exactly as we are and doing our best work from that place. You might call this playing full-out.
Confidentiality: Everything shared here stays here with the exception of your own personal experiences, which can be shared freely.
Leveling Up On Purpose: We can only lead others as far as we’ve gone ourselves. We’re here to intentionally grow where we see opportunities for ourselves.
Generative and Generous: Take what you learn and discover here outside of this “room” and into your life.
Growing is Messy: We all commit to showing up as our full selves. That means getting vulnerable, sharing survival mechanisms when they’re active, making messes, and leaving space for all of it.
Be Aware of Social Location, Power, and Privilege: We come into this space from a variety of backgrounds. We agree to become aware of our own points of proximity (and lack of proximity) to power and privilege, and to consider the context from which others are joining the space.
Take a Player Stance: Every person is a teacher and a student here. Everyone has room to grow and genius to share. Comparisons aren’t helpful; choose to be a player and not a passive recipient.
Integrity: Show up on time. This is one way we demonstrate integrity in this group. Beyond this, be your word. Own when you’re out of integrity and take responsibility.
Come From a Place of Curiosity and Trust: This is curiosity and trust for others as well as in yourself. Ask questions and come with an attitude of curiosity about yourself, too.
Communicate Assertively: Say what you mean with care and courage.
Approach with Play: Even when it feels hard or like work, there’s an invitation in this group to bring playfulness and lightness to the interaction.
