"Flawless, dazzling” (The Strad) American-Italian violinist Francesca Dego partners with Australian pianist Andrea Lam for this very special concert of huge violin works, including Beethoven’s enduring ‘Kreutzer’ violin sonata.
The ‘Kreutzer’ is famous for being written for an entirely different violinist when it was first conceived: the Afro-European violin virtuoso George Polgreen Bridgetower – who may have given this sonata its name had Beethoven not fallen out with the violinist, scrapped the plan, and dedicated the passionate work to Rodolphe Kreutzer instead. It’s rumoured Kreutzer possibly never even performed the work, which is known for being incredibly technically difficult, but the name nevertheless stuck, and the epic sonata has remained one of Beethoven’s most popular works.
In their concert for Snow’s 2027 Season, Dego and Lam don’t stop at one show stopper: they pair the Beethoven with Ravel’s fiery and ferociously difficult Tzigane, which will really showcase Dego’s peerless technique, and Debussy’s Violin Sonata. Also look out for the Australian premiere of Fabio Vacchi’s 2026 Frottola for solo violin.
