Frankincense
A little room in the countryside. A grand piano. Five musicians and 36 people.
For one evening, I’m bringing together a few musicians I love making music with to play twelve pieces I’ve arranged for this particular band and room.
The music lives somewhere between jazz fusion, acoustic house and ambient fusion. Some moments will be very quiet. Others will open right up. We’ll see what happens when we get there.
We’ll begin while the sun is still out.
At eight, we’ll stop for twenty minutes, step outside, have a little drink and some tiramisu made just for the evening, and watch the light change.
Then we’ll come back inside, just as the sun is setting, and finish the music together.
The room will be warm, earthy and a little enchanted. Timber, soft light, natural things. Nothing too polished. Nothing you need to understand beforehand.
Just a little world I’ve been wanting to make, and I’d love you to be in it.

Music begins: 7:20 pm
Interval: 8:00 to 8:20 pm
Music finishes: approximately 8:50 pm
You're welcome to stay and spend a little time together afterwards. There's no need to rush away.
Tickets: NZD 50, with the Humanitix booking fee absorbed by Locrian. There are 36 unassigned guest seats. This is an 18+ evening.
The interval: A little something to drink, with two original Frankincense expressions created by Sydney Knott, and a tiramisu made exclusively for the evening by Giovanni of A Spoonful of Heaven.
Water and non-alcoholic drinks will be available.
Getting here: Parking is on the property, including in Bronwyn’s paddock. Please don't park on Buckville Road. Follow the little Frankincense marker and warm lights from the entrance.
Food and scent: Let us know about any dietary requirements or allergies when booking so we can confirm what can be accommodated.
The room will have a subtle botanical and resinous scent. It won't be a scent-free event, so please get in touch before booking if you have a significant fragrance sensitivity.
Access: This is a rural property with a gravel approach. The shed entrance is low (approximately 1.65 m high) and has a threshold of approximately 10 cm.
Wheelchair accessibility cannot be assured. Please contact us before booking if you'd like to discuss access.
Photography and filming: We may quietly document the evening for Ken's personal documentary and archive, with selected photographs or performance footage potentially shared later.
If you'd prefer not to be intentionally featured in identifiable close-up footage or photographs, let us know beforehand or speak with our house human on the night.
Refunds: Tickets are non-refundable for change of mind or inability to attend. Your rights under applicable New Zealand consumer law remain unaffected if the event is cancelled or materially changed.

FAQs
- Is Frankincense invitation-only?
Not at all. You're very welcome whether you know Ken personally or have simply found your way here. There are 36 seats, available until they're gone.
- Can I come by myself?
Absolutely. Come on your own, come with someone you love, or come with a few friends. You'll have a place in the room either way.
- What happens if I'm running late?
No worries. We'll get you inside discreetly at the next natural break in the music, so you might have a little wait before taking your seat.
- Can I get a ticket at the door?
No door sales for this one. Please reserve your place through Humanitix beforehand.
- What if it rains?
The concert itself is indoors. If the weather doesn't lend itself to an outdoor interval, we'll simply stay inside. Ordinary rain won't stop Frankincense.
- Is there anything I should wear or bring?
Come as you are. Just bear in mind we're in the countryside, with a gravel driveway and paddock parking, so wear shoes you're comfortable walking outside in. It's only a few meters from the paddock parking across gravel to the shed though, if you had an outfit already in mind : )
- Do I need to know the music?
Not one bit. Everything has been arranged for this particular ensemble and evening. You can simply arrive and listen.
- Will it be loud?
This isn't a conventional amplified concert. The grand piano and most of the ensemble will be heard acoustically, with just a little amplification where needed. The room itself is doing most of the work.
- Will there be a bar?
Not a bar as such. We're preparing a couple of little drinks for the interval, including a non-alcoholic option. The plan is one small alcoholic serve per person, rather than an ongoing drinks service.
- Can I take photographs?
Of course. Phones aren't being policed. Just be thoughtful of the people around you, and please avoid flash or bright screens during the music. Being there is more important than documenting it.
- Is there a toilet on the property?
Yes. There's a designated guest toilet through the house. Our house human can point you in the right direction.
