Franklin River Movie Pambula
Event description
About the event
Hello, my names Zoe!Â
This event is focused on reigniting hope. As a young person experiencing COVID-19 and the 2019/2020 mega fires in the Bega Valley, I found myself feeling very much alone with very little hope. After experiencing a life changing viewing of this film in Tasmania, I was sparked into action to do more in partnership with my community, family and friends. The FRANKLIN RIVER MOVIE gave me opportunity to realize the amazing people we have right here striving to do good.Â
In sharing this message, in partnership with the Social Justice Advocates of the Sapphire Coast we present to you a night fueled in a community connection with the screening of the Franklin River film and conversations with guest speakers sharing messages of hope. This event is not just about considering problems we face, it’s about being apart of the solution.Â

About the Franklin River Film
Eighth-generation Tasmanian and environmentalist Oliver Cassidy embarks on a life-changing solo rafting trip down the beautiful yet remote Franklin River. His goal is to retrace his late father’s 14-day expedition to attend the blockade that helped save the World-Heritage listed national park from being destroyed by a huge hydroelectric dam project in the early 1980s.
Featuring never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with key players such as Bob Brown and Uncle Jim Everett, the eight-year-long 'Franklin campaign' is revealed as the most significant environmental protest in Australia's history; an inspiring example of the power of non-violent direct action to bring about lasting change.
Physically challenged beyond his limits, Oliver’s journey is one of healing and deeper understanding as he searches for the right way to say 'goodbye' to his father.
