Free After-Dark Bug Walk with Lily Duval!
Did you know that wētā have ears on their knees? Or that cicadas use ‘tummy’ drums to make their loud summer sounds?
Grab a torch and join author and illustrator Lily Duval for an exciting nighttime adventure!
Together, we’ll explore the shadows of Haruātai Park to discover the amazing insects we share our backyard with. You can even build your own custom bug viewer to use before you come (see instructions below).
Lily is the talented author and illustrator of Six Legged Ghosts (Canterbury University Press 2024). She also illustrated Critters of Aotearoa (Penguin, 2023) and works for Forest & Bird’s Kiwi Conservation Club (KCC).
Where: Haruātai Park, Ōtaki. Meet by the Scout Hall.
When: Friday 11 September, 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
Ages: 7–9 years (plus one required caregiver per booking)
Spots: Only 26 places available - bookings are essential for kids and caregivers
Cost: Free! But please register child and caregiver for a spot.
