Food and Garden Waste materials, collected from your Food and Garden waste bin, are taken to Valoriza's facility, where they are composted, and made into garden products.

To celebrate International Composting Awareness Week, Valoriza and City of Casey are offering a free compost (soil conditioner) collection event to 100 Casey households.

Households that book in can collect up to 0.5m3 (half a cubic metre) of soil conditioner.

Registered households can bring a ute, trailer, or a car with bags/buckets/trug tubs/whatever works for you, to collect their compost/soil conditioner. Compost/soil conditioner must be collected in one trip (if you can't take the full 0.5m3 in one go, then you forfeit the remainder). Please bring a helper if you can, and a shovel/spade or two to help you load your compost.

Important note: The compost/soil conditioner product: This is an organic product that has passed strict composting standards to make sure it is a safe product for residents, but there may be the odd fruit sticker that has snuck through (there as a reminder to make sure ONLY food stuffs/garden materials go into that bin).

Note though, that it is not quite ready for direct use in gardens (it's not quite finished composting!).

Think of this as food for your soil, not a potting mix.
Do not plant directly into it.

Suggestions for use:

Mulch: Spread 3–5 cm on garden beds (keep away from trunks and stems)
Soil Improvement/for use in Veggie gardens: Mix into soil (5–10 kg per m²)
Lawns (top dressing): Apply a thin layer (~1 cm) in spring or autumn

Please nominate an hour timeslot that you can attend within, to allow us to control traffic flow etc. Please stay in your vehicle, and await staff instructions before getting out of your car.
