    Event description

Join us for popcorn, good chats and movies, at Kathleen Syme Library, 11th of October at 1pm-3pm.

WIRE's Film and Feminist Chats is in collaboration with City of Melbourne Libraries.

For this session of Film and Feminist Chats, we are screening, Decolonizing Mental Health.

During our chats we shed light of the barriers within the system that people experience and ways we can advocate for change within mental health.

    About: Decolonizing Mental Health

This short documentary dismantles the racism that underscores the mental healthcare industry. Although based in the USA the themes shared throughout this documentary speaks to many barriers First People and BIPOC people in so called Australia experience. By focusing its gaze on the transformative work of therapists and individuals of colour, it calls for a redressal of the ways in which we define psychiatric illness and health.

Film and Feminist Chats is an opportunity for us to come together with shared values, to connect and to chat our thoughts and views about each film. We will provide beverages, tea and popcorn. Our programs are created by our community for our community to share and empower.

Film length, 30 minutes, with discussion time after.

All people living in Victoria welcomed.

We will be screening this film as part of National Multicultural Mental Health Month, find out more here https://www.mhfa.org.au/national-multicultural-mental-health-month#:~:text=The%20Mental%20Health%20Foundation%20Australia,1st%20October%20to%2031st%20October.
