Free Guided Tours - Campbelltown Arts Centre
Event description
Enjoy a free tour of the current exhibition - Marikit Santiago: Proclaim Your Death!
Let art professional Eva Hampel unravel each piece of the exhibition which explores themes of transformation, faith, and identity through immersive and collaborative art practices.
Uncover insights into Marikit’s dual heritage, the Catholic faith, motherhood and family ties, and the political implications of colonialism and the personal. The tour also looks at new acquisitions to the Campbelltown City Council Art Collection.
The exhibition features new installations, commissioned paintings, and an interactive gallery that engages with the Western art-historical canon, particularly focusing on religious ideologies around life, death, and transformation. Marikit Santiago is the recipient of the 2024 La Prairie Art Award and is a multiple finalist in the Archibald Prize and winner of the Sulman Prize. Her practice continues to evolve, blending personal experience with broader cultural and historical narratives.
Dr. Eva Hampel is an artist, arts academic, and gallery professional, ranging from exhibition install to collection management and curatorial roles. Eva explored contemporary artwork sitting at the edge of perception in her PhD thesis Liminal Speculations: Art, Nature and the Material Turn, tracing the thread of Romanticism into Contemporary theory. She also has a strong interest in First Nations art.
