    Event description

I am excited to announce that I have teamed up with Emerging Minds for the second time, and Murray Bridge Regional Gallery for the first time to run a series of free art workshops On alternating Saturdays and Sundays in August at the Baden Powell Hall Murray Bridge. Emerging Minds is an organisation that is dedicated to the improvement of children's mental health, they are providing funding for me to run kids and teens art classes surrounding some chosen themes to do with the resources Emerging Minds offers. Resultant artwork from the classes will be scanned and used in the resources on Emerging Minds website and publications, with originals being returned to students after scanning. Participating Kids and teens will have the opportunity to explore different art materials such as drawing with pens, pencils and oil pastels, painting and mixed media whilst creating in a safe, non judgemental environment. For more information please read the attached document from Emerging Minds. See below for more detailed information regarding this project.

    About Emerging Minds

Emerging Minds is dedicated to improving the mental health of Australian children. We develop resources that respond to the needs of professionals, children and their families, including podcasts, videos, written resources and online courses. You can find out more at emergingminds.com.au.

Why is Emerging Minds doing a children’s artwork project?

Emerging Minds holds hearing children’s voices as one of its guiding principles. We know that children are able to express their experiences, understandings and thoughts by communicating through art, and thus this project will hear their voices in an authentic and safe manner.

Having children’s artwork throughout Emerging Minds’ communications and resources intends to bring children to mind and help adults connect with their views and experiences on an emotional level, in a way that is more memorable and has more impact than the written word.

    What are we doing?

Rebecca Prince is collaborating with Emerging Minds to run a series of children’s art workshops. There will be a series of 4 workshops for younger children, and a series of 4 for older children. Rebecca will support the children to create artworks using provocations such as:

    • What do you want adults to know about what it's like being a kid?

    • What is your safe space? Real or imagined

    • What do you like doing with your family?

    • What do you like to do if you've had a bad day?

    • What are your strengths? How do you face challenges?

The full cost of the workshops will be paid for by Emerging Minds, so there is no cost to families.

What happens to my child’s artwork?

Rebecca will scan all of the artworks produced and provide digital copies to Emerging Minds. The children will own their original artworks.

Emerging Minds will use the digital artworks in a variety of ways including on their website, in resources for families and practitioners, online courses, e-newsletters, animations, podcast and webinar imagery, social media channels, conference presentations, documents and reports. Artwork might be used in full or in part in a range of static or animated ways.

As part of the workshops, Rebecca will support each child to write a short description of their artwork, which may be published alongside their age and first name (can be a pseudonym).
