Freefall

Freefall was written, developed and will be performed on the unceded lands of the Arrernte people. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Mparntwe/Alice Springs, pay our respects to Elders past and present, and thank them for their enduring care of this place.

Freefall is a new solo theatre work written and performed by Jac Marriott and directed by Jules Billington.

Following the birth of her identical twins, Jac began writing the journal entries that would grow into Freefall. The work blends movement, storytelling and humour to explore an emergency birth in Central Australia, a Royal Flying Doctor Service transfer, and the unexpected journey of early parenthood in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Freefall is a tribute to healthcare workers, a love letter to midwives, and an homage to the families who find themselves navigating the NICU.

Please note: Freefall explores themes of birth, emergency birth, NICU and parental mental health.

Premiering at Rhebo Hall, Mparntwe/Alice Springs, in August 2026.

Freefall runs for approximately 75 minutes.

Rhebo Hall is wheelchair accessible, including an accessible toilet.

The venue is breastfeeding-friendly, and babes in arms are warmly welcome. The performance is not otherwise recommended for children.

Both Saturday performances will be followed by an optional conversation with writer and performer Jac Marriott.

Local perinatal mental health counsellor Hannah Muir from Deep End Counselling will join the discussion, facilitating audience questions about the themes explored in Freefall, as well as questions about the creative process/production itself.

Freefall has truly been a labour of love, and I can't wait to share it with audiences here in Mparntwe/Alice Springs.

Thanks to the generous support of Arts NT and the Regional Arts Fund, we're well on our way—but we still have around $6,000 left to raise to fully realise this production.
