How to Get a Job in Publishing
Curious about what it really takes to break into publishing? This session explores options for careers in the book industry. Hear from Fremantle Press publisher Georgia Richter, Centre for Stories’ Robert Wood, WA Penguin Random House Sales Account Manager Jane Parkhill, and Executive Editor Sean Cowan from Business News, as they discuss the roles that are available in publishing, and how people are hired into them. The panel will cover the skills and experience that matters most, how to stand out in applications, and what entry-level pathways might look like. Hybrid Warehouse, 5 Quarry Street, Fremantle
- 12:30 am - 1:30 pm
From Page to Stage and Screen
What special magic is required to take a story from its original book format into the worlds of theatre and television? That will be the subject of this panel session featuring Producer, Executive Producer and Founder of Feisty Dame Productions, Tania Chambers, and Artistic Director of Barking Gecko Arts, Sam Longley. The pair will discuss their collaboration with authors on Invisible Boys and Stellarphant. Facilitated by James Foley. Hybrid Warehouse, 5 Quarry Street, Fremantle
- 1:10 pm - 2:10 pm
Ask an Editor
Ever wanted to ask an editor what really makes a manuscript work, how submissions are assessed, or what happens after you sign a contract? Now’s your chance! Book a one-on-one, 10 minute Q&A with Fremantle Press editors Rachel Hanson and Kirsty Horton. Sit down one-on-one with Fremantle Press editors Rachel Hanson and Kirsty Horton for a personal Q&A about editing and publishing. Bring your questions including how editors and authors work together, what goes into creating a killer book cover, how books are printed, an overview of the publishing process and editorial consultancy, and receive honest, friendly advice from the professionals. This session is not a manuscript assessment. If you have already submitted a manuscript to Fremantle Press, we can’t discuss it in this session.
- 9:30 am - 1:45 pm
