FAQs
- What is Barre?
A lot of people think you need a dance background or ballet experience to do barre, but you absolutely don't.
Barre was originally created by German ballet dancer Lotte Berk after she sustained an injury. She developed a low-impact method that helped build strength, improve posture, and increase flexibility while being kinder to the body.
Today, barre blends elements of Pilates, yoga, strength training, and ballet-inspired movement into a dynamic, full-body workout. While it takes inspiration from ballet, you won't be dancing across the room or expected to know any ballet terminology.
One of the things we love most about barre is how inclusive it is. Every exercise can be modified to suit your body, your experience, and your goals. Whether you're stepping into your very first class, returning after an injury, pregnant, or looking for a new challenge, barre meets you exactly where you are.
It's not about being a dancer. It's about moving well, building strength, and feeling good in your body.
At Side Barre, our classes are musically driven, energising and dynamic. The movements are aligned to the beat of the music, building strength, stability and flexibility all at once.
And the best part? No two classes ever feel the same. Barre is constantly evolving, which is what makes it so fun.
Low impact. High burn. Strong bodies. Good music.
- Who is teaching?
Brianna will be your teacher, the co-founder of Side Barre.
For the last 20 years, Brianna has dedicated her life to movement. From teaching dance alongside performing overseas on cruise ships, in Macau casinos, and across European variety shows, to now teaching barre, yoga, and Pilates in Düsseldorf, Germany for the past 6 years.
But beyond the stages and studios, helping people move, grow in confidence, and believe in themselves has always been at the heart of it all.
Side Barre was created by Brianna and her husband Phil, for people wanting more than just a workout. A concept built on the feeling of connection, community, and coming home to yourself through movement.
After experiencing the power of that community while teaching in Germany, Brianna and Phil are excited to bring that feeling to Brisbane.
