Freshwater Family Fun Day *Part 2* - Frog Talk & Field Survey
Event description
World Wetland Day was on 2nd February, so it seems only fitting that we're holding events to celebrate all that is Freshwater! Our Freshwater Family Fun Day will be broken down into 2 parts - this second part is focusing on frogs!
We invite you to start your afternoon by joining us for a BBQ from 4:30pm - 5pm - drinks will also be available - donations welcome! Suzanne our nursery manager will be on hand for any plant related questions, and you will be able to purchase from the nursery.
FROG INFORMATION SESSION:
This event will kick off at 5pm, meeting in the Seed Pod (our education centre) at Mooloolah River Landcare. Our guest presenter is Jono Hooper (Events & Initiatives Coordinator) from Qld Frog Society Inc.
Jono will cover off on:
- the local frogs you can expect in your area,
- the threats to our local frogs and importantly,
- how to attract them to your backyard
- cane toad myths and identification tips
There will also be some resources for sale and helpful brochures to take home.
This first section of the frog session wraps up at 6pm. There will be a short intermission (chance to visit the bathroom & grab a drink) before the survey begins for those of you continuing on into the evening.
FROG FIELD SURVEY:
We will regroup and head off from 6:30pm out the back of MRL. We ask that you please come prepared! Bring along your own head lamp if you have one - we will have torches available for your use if you don't have one you can bring. Wear gumboots if possible, or be prepared to have wet shoes!! A moderate level of fitness is required, as you will need to step over obstacles, uneven wet ground, and slippery surfaces - after all, you are going hunting for frogs in the dark!! Insect repellent is also recommended.
There is a Frog ID app you can download onto your phones before the event >https://www.frogid.net.au/get-...
We ask that you supervise children closely, as there are waterways located close-by. Please note that numbers are limited for the field survey & bookings are essential!
