Friday Night Cane Toad Catching
Event description
The Springfield Lakes Nature Care Group is running a Toad Catching Night as part of the Great Cane Toad Challenge. We teach participants the 5 key criteria that distinguish a native frog from a cane toad, to ensure native frogs are not mistakenly caught. We show participants how to safely and humanely catch cane toads and how to euthanise them by using the cool freeze method. We also will count each person's catch and provide a certificate to each participant with their capture count.
Participants should wear protective clothing such as long pants and closed in footwear.
BYO torch or headlamp and a bucket, with a lid or a large steep bucket to prevent cane toads from escaping.
We will supply gloves and mosquito repellant.
Children over the age of 4 years are welcome but must be supervised as the lake is in close proximity to where we conduct the catching and counting of cane toads.
