FrogID Bushfire Roadshow
Event description
Frog ID Bushfire Roadshow presentation. Learn about how frogs were affected by last year’s fires, how they are recovering and how the FrogID app works in providing information to the Australian Museum to help with frog conservation.
What's that sound
Croaks, whistles, bleats and barks - every frog species makes a different sound! By recording a frog call with our app, FrogID, you can discover which frogs live around you and help us count Australia's frogs!
Why frogs?
Frogs play an important role in our environment and provide an indicator of environmental
health. Sadly, frogs are one of the most threatened groups of animals on earth and there’s a very real threat that
the fires pushed many frog species even closer to the brink of extinction. To help save them, we need our
communities to get involved. By using the FrogID app whenever frogs are heard calling, Australians can help put
frogs on the map and inform frog conservation.
Why Frogs Count
Australia has over 240 known species of frog, almost all of which are found nowhere else in the world. Some species are flourishing, like the Striped Marsh Frog. But others have declined dramatically since the 1980s, and four have become extinct.
FrogID is a national citizen science project that is helping us learn more about what is happening to Australia’s frogs. All around the country, people are recording frog calls with nothing more than a smartphone.
