Event description

Do you know your Striped Marsh Frog from your Common Eastern Froglet? Would you like to learn how to recognise frog calls and learn about what you can do to help protect frogs?

Explore, listen, and contribute to real science in your local wetlands! Join Melbourne Water for a citizen science event at Huntingdale Wetlands, where you’ll learn about the vital role wetlands play in supporting biodiversity, exploring the wetland after dark and learning how to identify frog species from their calls and capture their sounds using the Frog Census App.

Experience a guided walk at sunset to listen to the frogs of Huntingdale Wetlands, with hands-on activities to help you discover the wonderful world of frogs that is right on your doorstep. You’ll be helping contribute to valuable data that helps monitor our local frog populations, and maybe even spot one or two of our hopping friends!

Please note: This event is family-friendly and suitable for all ages. Children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Closest public toilets available at Brickmakers Park and Reg Harris Reserve (3–5-minute drive or 15–20-minute walk from the wetlands).

Meeting point at: Osborne Avenue entrance. Parking available in Osbourne Avenue and surrounding streets.

Please arrive at 5.50pm for a prompt 6pm start.

  • Comfortable outdoor clothing and enclosed sturdy shoes. Please check weather forecasts in lead up to the event. The event will still go ahead if raining.
