From academic abstract to public engagement: Communicating your research to multiple audiences
Event description
Join us for a hands-on workshop to craft a project abstract for both academic and public audiences. Develop essential skills for sharing your research beyond academia while getting practical feedback on your own abstract. You will learn to identify different audience needs, adjust your tone, and communicate effectively across various platforms—from conferences to social media to video explainers.
PREWORK: Look at a range of academic and public-facing research abstracts (you could ask your supervisors for samples relevant to your discipline), and draft your own abstract to bring to the workshop.
Lunch will be provided courtesy of the Graduate Research School.
Facilitator:
Tom Melick is a researcher, writer, and editor. He co-edits Slug, is the in-house reader for Rosa Press collective, and publishes small books and pamphlets with Stolon Press.
